Design Development
The homeowners came to us with a house in a nice neighborhood on a site with spectacular views, but the stucco covered, early 90s post-modern home didn’t take advantage of views, breezes, or respond to the neighboring structures. We essentially kept the best parts of the house, but proposed redoing everything else to make a contemporary, healthy home that embraces the environment. A second floor wrap-around lanai hovers above the terrain in these early design renderings. The lanai not only shades the ground level, which now opens up to the garden, but also protects an interior double height atrium space. Everywhere you look from the ground level, you feel connected with the landscape immediately around you. From the second floor, faraway views of the mountains and ocean are framed, while the surrounding suburban houses are blocked out of perspective.
