nu‘uanu stream

phase: Construction Documents (Awaiting Permit Approval)

This extensive renovation to a residence overlooking Nu‘uanu Stream seeks to solve several design issues. The lack of eaves and overhangs left the windward side of the house exposed to rain damage and moisture, but that direction is also the primary view of the nearby waterfalls and watering hole, so Kokomo proposed a solution for a rain screen that blocks weather and onlookers from seeing into the house, while providing a protective barrier to still see out from. The concept for this house became a Japanese-styled, heavy timber framed, glass house, covered by a veil.
